Sutter West Bay Medical Group (SWBMG) is seeking a full-time Board Eligible/Board Certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join our expanding Cardiothoracic Surgery program in San Francisco, California.

This is an exceptional opportunity to join a collaborative, patient-centered cardiovascular team dedicated to providing advanced surgical care for patients with complex cardiac and thoracic conditions. The Cardiothoracic Surgeon will work closely with cardiologists, intensivists, advanced practice providers, anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary care teams to deliver comprehensive, high-quality cardiovascular and thoracic surgical services.

This opportunity is open to both experienced surgeons and graduating cardiothoracic surgery fellows interested in joining a collaborative, high-quality cardiovascular program serving the greater San Francisco Bay Area. The ideal candidate is committed to clinical excellence, innovation, and teamwork while providing outstanding patient care across the full spectrum of cardiothoracic surgery. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a growing regional program while helping expand access to advanced cardiovascular and thoracic surgical care throughout the Bay Area.

Opportunity Details:

  • Provide comprehensive cardiothoracic surgical care in both inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Perform a broad range of cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures, including elective and urgent interventions
  • Evaluate and manage patients with coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, thoracic aortic disease, cardiac tumors, thoracic malignancies, and other complex cardiothoracic conditions
  • Collaborate closely with cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, pulmonologists, oncologists, and intensivists to develop individualized treatment plans
  • Participate in multidisciplinary cardiovascular and thoracic case conferences and quality initiatives
  • Provide preoperative consultation, perioperative management, and postoperative follow-up care
  • Support development and growth of cardiovascular and thoracic surgical services throughout the region
  • Utilize evidence-based practices to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care and optimize outcomes
  • Participate in call coverage and emergent surgical care as part of a collaborative surgical team
  • Contribute to quality improvement, patient safety, and program development initiatives
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation within the Epic electronic health record
  • Work within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary cardiovascular program focused on exceptional patient outcomes

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery residency/fellowship training program, or current enrollment in an accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship with anticipated completion prior to start date
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Thoracic Surgery; current Board Certification by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery preferred
  • Eligible for unrestricted California medical licensure
  • Current DEA registration
  • Expertise or advanced training in adult cardiac surgery, including coronary, valvular, and aortic procedures
  • Expertise or advanced training in thoracic surgery, including lung resection and general thoracic procedures
  • New graduates and fellows are encouraged to apply
  • Commitment to collaborative, patient-centered care within a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong commitment to quality, patient safety, and evidence-based care
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with Epic or similar electronic health record systems preferred
