Opportunity InformationSutter West Bay Medical Group (SWBMG) is seeking a full-time Inpatient Oncology Nurse Practitioner to join our growing Oncology practice in San Francisco, California. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a collaborative, patient-centered oncology team dedicated to providing comprehensive, evidence-based care to hospitalized patients undergoing cancer treatment and therapy. The Inpatient Oncology Nurse Practitioner will work closely with oncologists, hospitalists, advanced practice clinicians, pharmacists, nurses, case managers, social workers, palliative care teams, and other multidisciplinary partners to manage medically complex oncology patients throughout the continuum of inpatient care. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in oncology nursing and/or advanced oncology practice, with experience managing medically complex adult patients, oncologic emergencies, symptom management, treatment-related toxicities, and complex care coordination. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a growing oncology program while providing high-quality, compassionate, and patient-centered care to patients throughout their cancer journey.

Opportunity Details:
- Provide comprehensive, evidence-based care to hospitalized patients undergoing cancer treatment and therapy
- Obtain patient histories, perform physical examinations, establish diagnoses, and develop individualized treatment plans
- Order and interpret diagnostic testing and prescribe medications within scope of practice
- Participate in inpatient rounding and inpatient oncology consultations
- Collaborate closely with oncologists, hospitalists, pharmacists, nurses, case managers, social workers, palliative care teams, and other interdisciplinary partners
- Coordinate care for patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, and supportive treatments
- Manage treatment-related complications, symptoms, and toxicities associated with cancer and cancer therapies
- Provide disease, medication, treatment, and self-management education to patients and families
- Participate in goals-of-care and end-of-life discussions with patients and families
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, care conferences, and transitions of care
- Facilitate timely discharge planning and coordination of follow-up care
- Support evidence-based clinical pathways, quality initiatives, patient safety, and readmission reduction efforts
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation within the electronic medical record
- Practice with independent clinical judgment while maintaining physician collaboration and consultation appropriate to patient needs and clinical complexity
Clinical Focus: The Inpatient Oncology Nurse Practitioner will provide care for medically complex oncology patients, including management and coordination of:
- Febrile neutropenia
- Sepsis
- Tumor lysis syndrome
- Hypercalcemia of malignancy
- Venous thromboembolism
- Cancer-related pain crises and symptom management
- Chemotherapy and other treatment-related toxicities
- Immunotherapy-related adverse events
- Hematologic abnormalities and transfusion needs
- Patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, and supportive treatments
- Goals-of-care and end-of-life discussions
- Transitions of care and discharge planning for complex oncology patients
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner program
- Master’s degree in nursing
- Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of inpatient oncology experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Registered Nurse
- Demonstrated experience caring for medically complex adult patients
- Current or eligible California Registered Nurse license
- Current or eligible California Nurse Practitioner certification
- Current or eligible California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number
- National certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP)
- National Provider Identifier (NPI) at time of hire
- Current DEA registration
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
- Five (5) or more years of oncology registered nursing experience in inpatient oncology, hematology/oncology, bone marrow transplant, or a related oncology setting preferred
- Prior inpatient Oncology Nurse Practitioner experience preferred
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) and/or Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP) certification preferred
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, problem-solving, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
- Commitment to compassionate, patient-centered, evidence-based oncology care
- Ability to meet credentialing and privileging requirements established for Nurse Practitioners by California Pacific Medical Center and Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation
