Opportunity Information

Sutter Medical Group is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our growing Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) and Complex GI Surgical Oncology Program in Sacramento and Roseville, California. 

This is an exciting opportunity to become a founding clinician for a newly launched regional surgical oncology program specializing in complex pancreatic, liver, biliary, and gastrointestinal malignancies. This role is primarily outpatient-focused and offers the opportunity to work alongside a multidisciplinary team of Surgical Oncology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Gastroenterology, Interventional Radiology, and Anesthesia specialists to deliver comprehensive cancer care across the continuum of treatment.

Position Highlights

  • Full-time, 1.0 FTE outpatient position
  • Monday-Friday schedule, 5 x 8-hour days
  • No call responsibilities
  • No weekend coverage
  • Opportunity to help build and shape a new regional Surgical Oncology program from inception

Practice Responsibilities

The PA/NP will serve as a dedicated outpatient provider supporting patients throughout their surgical oncology journey, including:

  • New patient consultations and evaluations
  • Comprehensive history and physical examinations
  • Coordination of staging studies and diagnostic workups
  • Pre-anesthesia and preoperative care coordination
  • Postoperative clinic visits and follow-up care
  • Drain and biliary tube management
  • Surgical wound assessment and management
  • Cancer surveillance visits
  • Tumor board action-item follow-up and coordination
  • Post-discharge patient education and follow-up
  • Coordination of care across multidisciplinary oncology teams
  • Navigation of patients through adjuvant therapy transitions and survivorship planning

Clinical Allocation

  • 90% outpatient clinic
  • 10% hospital follow-up and pre-discharge patient education
  • No routine inpatient rounding
  • No operative first-assist responsibilities

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited NP or PA program with appropriate national certification (e.g., AANP, ANCC, NCCPA).

  • California licensure eligibility and clearances (NP/PA licensure required).

  • Minimum two years of APP experience preferred

  • Oncology, surgical, GI, or complex care management experience preferred

  • Strong patient education and care coordination skills

  • Experience working within multidisciplinary care teams
